By the 1950's, cities had become too dirty, crowded, and polluted. People began flocking to new suburbs that were opening up, thanks to William J. Levitt. He mass produced houses that took only weeks to build. Even the GI Bill of Rights gave World War II veterans low-interest mortgages to these new homes.
