Spy Cases
Because the Truman administration was trying to contain Communism, they launched loyalty programs to stop it from spreading
into the United States. This was also to expose any Soviet spies in the US. The Federal Bureau of Investigation accused several
million government employees of disloyalty. They were brought before a Loyalty Review Board, but not many lost their jobs.
The House Un-American Activities Committee and the McCarran-Walter Act were also loyalty programs. There were many spy cases,
even with actors like Humphrey Bogart. Ethel and Julius Rosenberg were the first to be executed for espionage.

McCarthyism
McCarthyism is a term used to describe the methods used by U.S. senator Joe McCarthy to turn Americans against Communism.
This involved the use of fabricated evidence as "proof". During the McCarthy Era, many people were accused of being Communists
by McCarthy himself. This included 205 individuals working in the government, former Secretary of State George Marshall, and
people working in the Army.

Impact on America
These events sparked a second Red Scare. People began to dislike Communists. There was an air of suspicion surrounding the
nation in these times.
